Coronavirus and Other Respiratory Illnesses: What My Studio is Doing

Dear Clients, I am writing today to share my strategy to reduce the likelihood of the spread of respiratory illnesses, such as influenza, pertussis, and coronavirus disease (“COVID-19”), within my studio. I will follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and World Health Organization (WHO) for updates and best practices regarding these illnesses, to limit the potential for their transmission. These measures are particularly important given the potentially vulnerable populations I serve (pregnant women, newborns, infants, and young children.) (More on this from the CDC.) The following strategies have been implemented:

-All studio visitors (with the exception of infants) are asked to wash or sanitize hands upon entering, and I will do the same. Hand sanitizer is available around the studio, please help yourself during your session. I will sanitize my hands periodically, including any time I touch my face.

-I will follow current CDC disinfection guidelines regarding routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces (for example: equipment, tables, doorknobs, light switches, handles, carts). Cleaning with EPA-registered disinfectants will occur immediately prior to and immediately after each session.

-Washable fabric items (for example: bed linens, blankets, photography props) will be laundered prior to each session. Non-washable fabric and knit items will be spot cleaned when necessary, and run through a 30 minute dryer cycle on high.

-I will reschedule to the best of my ability whenever a client is ill. Please let me know if you are feeling sick. Clients are never penalized for rescheduling due to illness. If I am feeling ill, I will let you know as soon as possible. In the event a reschedule is not feasible, deposits will be refunded and a referral to another local photographer may be offered.

Current WHO recommendations regarding the use of masks by healthy people to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are that a face mask is only recommended if caring for someone with COVID-19. However, if you prefer me to wear a disposable surgical mask during your session, please feel free to bring one, and I am happy to do so. (Due to current supply shortages and CDC recommendations against their use in non-healthcare settings, I am not able to supply N95 respirator masks.)

-My family and I are also self-distancing when possible, utilizing things like grocery pick-up to avoid large crowds, and taking time away from malls, movie theaters, school, and church.

-Most sessions can take place at your home. If you would prefer not to come to the studio, I am happy to discuss the differences between in-home and studio sessions, so you can decide if that option could work for you. Given recent media attention to COVID-19, and the potential for its spread in the coming weeks, I felt it was necessary for me to share my strategies to keep my clients safe. While most of these practices are already standard, I am hopeful that formalizing them will give you some peace of mind when visiting with your family. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any and all concerns. -Cassie
